Remote Legal Counsel
We're seeking an experienced attorney to join our team as an independent contractor. This role is ideal for someone with experience advising startups and technology companies who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. You'll work directly with clients through Slack, delivering high-quality legal work on Roadmap's flat-fee model — $500 per document, full lifecycle, attorney-reviewed.
Responsibilities
- Advise early-stage startups on entity formation, corporate governance, and venture capital financing
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts — SAFEs, commercial agreements, NDAs, service agreements
- Provide guidance on privacy law compliance including GDPR, CCPA, and data processing agreements
- Support clients with day-to-day legal needs: employee equity structuring, board governance, general counsel coverage
- Collaborate with the team to deliver strategic, tech-forward legal solutions aligned with client business objectives
Qualifications
- Active bar admission in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
- Minimum 4 years of legal experience, with at least 2 years advising technology companies
- Strong background in corporate law, venture financing, and/or privacy
- Excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication skills with a practical, client-focused approach
- Comfortable working with Notion, Slack, Google Workspace, and AI-assisted workflows
